Suggestion #5 - More Space for Art

Postby DirtyGirl » Tue Jun 26, 2012 12:45 pm

More Space for Art. I suggest that if at all possible, we expand the land for PDF but NOT increase the ticket cap. Recognizing the possible challenges with having trucks access the back fields, it might be a challenge to encourage this.... but a second larger community area, perhaps the back field that we all look at longingly but can't camp in, could be used for art. In situations where the ground is dry and drivable, we could even have a small selection of art cars be a part of PDF. If it possible to expand camping space, too, great! But let's keep the ticket cap at 1,200 and build cohesion and community.

i am very interested to hear what our options are with this - guess we need to talk to the Vets and find out how much of the land is usable, what it would cost, how it would get mowed, etc etc. would be great to see this happen - more art, same amount of people (very impt, i am against raising the ticket cap) sounds great to me!

Great idea! Maybe ask for some site specific stuff, too. Wouldn't it be awesome if every year we had a pony effigy as well as a Welcome Home project?

Hey if you cruised over here from facebook, chime in!

Not to get off the art topic but if you ever felt like "I'd like to get more involved in PDF but don't feel welcome to" that might be because FB is NOT where most of the work gets done. It gets done here on the PONY and Dept. emails, and PC calls and the PC agenda thread before the calls.

Sometimes FB threads get ugly and many hard working volunteers run away from that ugly not because they are aloof, or scared, but because ugly sucks. If you post ugly stuff on the PONY and people continue to ignore you, maybe the problem isn't everybody else.

For a long time I was a confused noob with a million bazillion questions. Years, arts grants, WWWs, theme camps, and a GÜD later, I've found there are no Elder Scrolls or zealous guardians hoarding and limiting access to info. There are just more questions and more work than there are hands to do the work. Grumping and bullshitting we got covered, work we need more help with.

Really, what do you need help with? In particular, what do you need someone working on that isn't getting done? I'm a noob wrt PDF (been once). My August is slow(ish), I have some time. There is nothing posted in help wanted -- What do you need help with?

Don't tell me you need more volunteers. What needs to be done today?

I'm not pretending I will be a fit for everything. (yo, introverted non-artist) But all I hear is grumping that PDF needs more workers, and there never seems to be anything to do.

Hey Guppy.. thanks for stepping up. We will be talking budgets this coming meeting and will have a better idea of what is needed once that is done. I know parking is going to be in need of some fun artsy signage, and I was thinking it would be awesome to have the principles on big sings as you drive into the back field. Similar to what is in front of the stage, just a bit bigger and higher so it can be seen from the car.

Hey Guppy!
Check Help Wanted. If you are coming to Fall pdf we could really use Dumpster Signs. They really do help keep dumpsters from filling up w/ couches and catching on fire.
