Fancy Taxi - Public Transportation

Postby niftyness » Fri Oct 21, 2011 3:31 pm

Figured this was the best place for this..

I'm planning an Art Project for Burningman 2012 called "Fancy Taxi Services"

I'd like to test-drive a small scale version at Spring PDF before we finalize our full scale plans.

Prolly won't be back East in the Spring, but I can help coordinate from the other side.

Here is the initial idea:

Things to test out:
- the Kiosk Design
- Radio Transmission

Fancy Taxis can be any vehicle willing to transport passengers in a creative manner. I'm currenly arguing with the Powers that Be over the possibility of an official DMV sub-division as to allow for a variety of specialzed vehicles... we'll take anything from golf carts to school busses - as long as it's Fancy.

What makes it Fancy?
- CB Radio
- FM Tuner
- "Outside" speakers (like an ice cream truck)
- Mutated ( an allowance for lesser-mutations would be awesome as it will allow those with little funding to fancy up their vehicle without having to fully mutate it -- i've been told that this could "lead to abuse of the system" but I've already planned to cap the drivers.. and besides, if you don't have a Fancy Taxi License, you can't be driving on the playa anyway )

If you'd like to Help, simply jump in anywhere and get started. Discussion Forum: http://thewut.com/fts

Srsly, we can test this out at PDF with just one vehicle and like... maybe 3 scattered kiosks. :geek:

I feel it's slightly off-topic, unless DMV is part of DPW, which would be OK with me if OK with rest of DPW?
As for not mutating a vehicle...magnetic signs, battery-powered light strings, or plastic flowers and other klitsch can 'Sparkle Your Pony' without prrmanent damage to rental carts or street-legal cars/vans. But art is always optional!

Hey Fritz!

I've been having difficulty finding the appropriate committee for this Community Project... it would be simple to pull off if only we could garner some coordination between the DPW/DMV and the general burner populace.

Contacting Burning Man and they gave me the "practice some radical self-reliance" speech. So.. no luck there. Disappointing really. If they would simply listen to the benefits of such a project, it would make their volunteer jobs much more entertaining.

Ah well.. still working on it :)
